Ms. Furuya’s works are a contemporary take on calligraphy, beyond traditional calligraphy style. She believes in “Koto-Dama,” the mystical powers that dwell in words, and carefully chooses the right words based on her inspiration. She harmoniously blends a variety of materials and calligraphy, including antique kimono, fabric and traditional Japanese handmade paper. She is also capable of managing various brush sizes and produces a wide range of works. Her biggest work is over 2 m (6.5 ft.) long and 1 m (3.2 ft.) wide.
